Do-It-Yourself: Aspirin x Honey Facial Mask

Say Good-Bye to Acne & Dry Skin....And Hello to Healthy Skin!

Aspirin contains salicylic acid, a beta hydroxy acid that helps to slough off dead cells and clear clogged pores and reduce production of skin oil. This D.Y.I. facial mask makes great use of aspirin's skin-clearing abilities as well as honey's moisturizing effect. I'm a lush for aspirin because it clears my gawd awful migraines and headaches, so I'm tempted to see how this facial will work on my sensitive skin! Since aspirin is an acid, it shouldn't be used too often because it can irritate skin, so be careful. Its recommended that you do this facial treatment 2-3 times a week, but that depends on your skins sensitivity. If you are allergic to aspirin DO NOT USE THIS FACIAL MASK! Got it? Get it? Good!

Instructions:
1. Take 3 - 4 uncoated aspirin pills and place on a small plate.
2. Sprinkle several drops of water on them, just enough to make them start to dissolve. They should dissolve right before your eyes. Use your fingers to help break down the aspirin more. It should be grainy & slightly wet.
3. Squirt about 2 drops of honey on the water & aspirin. Use your fingers to mix them all together into a grainy paste.
4. Apply the mixture all over your face, avoiding the eye area.
5. Leave on for 10 - 15 minutes.
6. Add some warm water to your face with your hands & scrub gently for a few minutes.
7. Finally, rinse off completely & use your favorite toner & moisturizer.

Kimora Lee Simmons Shinto Clinical Set To Launch!

Shinto Clinical by Kimora Lee Simmons is almost here. Take a look at this article about its launch from today’s Women’s Wear Daily:

"Kimora Lee Simmons, who has put her name on six fragrances with thoughts of a seventh and has dabbled in the color cosmetics market, is stepping into the skin care business with a worldly attitude.
For her debut, Simmons has developed a nine-item treatment line called Shinto Clinical, which is designed to encompass cultural elements of the East and the West with a dash of humor thrown in. “This line is about their Eastern allure of diet and beautiful skin. It’s based on cultures that live from the sea,” she said, ticking a list of ingredients such as fish oil, pearl powder, omegas, beta glucan, mushroom and Wakame kelp extract. “The Western [influence] is the medicine, the efficacy, the delivery and the clinical results. That’s why we call this Shinto Clinical; this is really a clinical range.” Shinto means “of the gods,"she noted.

"Simmons said she learned about the necessity of brand building while launching her color brand at Sephora. “You have to know, you have to support, you have to be able to educate and you have to teach,” she said. “You have to be responsible for all that, not [the retailer]. You have to plan it out. There is KLS Cosmetics still scraggling around. But it needs to be revamped and redone, so that will be after this."

Shinto Clinical’s worldwide debut this February 24 on QVC. For more info, follow Shinto Clinical by Kimora Lee Simmons @ShintoClinical!

SKIN & BEAUTY CARE: Smoothie Mask By Michelle Phan

To make this mask, you'll need two simple ingredients:

1 papaya
1/2 fresh pineapple

Instructions:Cut up both fruits into small pieces and toss everything into a juicer (like you're making a smoothie!). Once that's finished blending, use a cotton pad to soak up the mixture and apply it on your face and neck.

Leave the juice on your skin for 10 minutes and then rinse it off. The acid from the fruits will help turn over and brighten your skin's complexion.

Top 4 Beauty Foods For Younger Looking Skin

Strawberries: Eating more vitamin C-rich foods, such as strawberries, may help to ward off wrinkles and age-related dryness, suggests research from 2007 in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Vitamin C’s skin-smoothing effects may be due to its ability to mop up free radicals produced from ultraviolet rays and also its role in collagen synthesis. (Vitamin C is essential for collagen production.) You can find vitamin C in a multitude of cosmetics—of which some have been shown to be effective in protecting skin—but why not go straight to the source for a tasty boost of C: red bell peppers, papaya, broccoli and oranges are other excellent sources. (Try these sweet strawberry recipes for better skin.)

Tomatoes: Tomatoes get their red hue from lycopene, a carotenoid that may help to keep your skin smooth. In a study published in 2008 in the European Journal of Pharmaceutics and Biopharmaceutics, researchers found that of the 20 individuals studied, those who had higher skin concentrations of lycopene had smoother skin. Boost your lycopene intake with fresh summer produce like watermelon and carrots too. (Find tomato recipe ideas here.)

Tofu: Tofu and other soyfoods, such as edamame and soymilk, may help to preserve skin-firming collagen because they are rich in isoflavones. In a study published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition, mice fed isoflavones and exposed to ultraviolet radiation had fewer wrinkles and smoother skin than mice that were exposed to UV light but didn’t get isoflavones. The researchers believe that isoflavones help prevent collagen breakdown. (Find tasty 30-minute dinners using tofu here.)

Tuna: Eating tuna—and other omega-3-rich fish, such as salmon, sardines and trout—may help keep your skin looking youthful thanks to the omega-3 fat EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid). EPA has been shown to preserve collagen. (Enjoy tuna in Mediterranean Tuna Antipasto Salad and more healthy tuna recipes here.)
