GIVE BACK: Build a Backpack Back To School Drive!

Fashion Empowering Women has kicked off it's Summer 2012 Back To School Drive - a donation drive to fulfill 2 local school's wish lists to ensure our students are equipped for a successful new school year.

| WHAT IS THE #BUILDABACKPACK DRIVE? |

The poverty rate in the Metropolitan area is steadily rising, and children are disproportionately affected. Studies show that Prince Georges County has the highest suburban poverty rate with 7% of residents living below the poverty line. The District’s Ward 8, stands at an alarming 35% with an unemployment rate at 25.2%. In Alexandria city, 18% of residents live in poverty.
According to educators, children sometimes go to school without the proper supplies because their parents simply cannot afford it. The #BuildaBackpack Drive will support these families by collecting supplies to ensure student preparedness. We cannot do it without you, will you help FEW's Build a Backpack?

Their success depends on us. Our success depends on you.

| WHY PLAN A BACKPACK DRIVE? |
Sometimes the only difference between an A+ student and a failing student is having basic supplies to do homework and participate in class. Because 80% of the children living in Ward 8 come from family's below the poverty line, after the most basic of needs of the family are met, school supplies may not fit into that budget.
You can help in several ways:
1) Create a drive and collect new school supplies to donate.
2) Make a financial donation and sponsor 1, 2, 3 or even 10 backpacks.
3) Volunteer to help with packing backpacks and delivery.

Get ready for some uber-cuteness as fashion brand, Dolce & Gabbana takes on a very fashion-forward kids collection set to debut next month, July! This will be their first kids’collection and of course we've got the preview of all the cuteness (see below).

According to Stefano Gabbana we should expect, “A miniature version of our signature line,” which I'm excited to see! D&G never lets you down. In addition WWD says:
"The debut collection, which bows for fall, is extensive, comprising about 1,300 stockkeeping units and all product categories — clothing, innerwear, beachwear, accessories and footwear, targeting newborns and boys and girls up to 10. It also includes a unique and exquisite division dedicated to the baptismal ceremony."
We hear that the designers interviewed fab-mommies to get an idea of the most practical and fashionable choices they prefer their little tots to wear! How cute is this collection? Aww.

Attention Fab Mommies: Gwen Stefani's Harajuku Mini Children's Collection For Target

A few weeks ago we reported that Gwen Stefani’s capsule collection Harajuku Mini for Target was coming and it's finally arrived! The retailer just released photos of the rock star fashion designer’s first children’s line, which includes accessories and apparel for babies, toddlers, and tweens, priced from $4 to $30. “The kids clothes are a reflection of things I wear,” Stefani told InStyle Magazine. And references to her own wardrobe are clear—plaid pants reminiscent of her look in No Doubt’s “Spiderwebs” video, and a faux-leather jacket and dress combo that looks like a smaller version of a recent L.A.M.B. runway look. Look out for the entire collection in Target stores November 13th...but you can most certainly preview it here (see below)!!
