HAUTE FRIDAY: Washington Nationals Game!

WHAT I WORE: National's T-Shirt from Target/ Boy jean shorts (old but similar version here) by A&FConverse sneakers/ Philip Lim for Target cross-body bag/

Happy Friday guys! I had a pretty busy week but I managed to squeeze in a Washington Nationals game with my cousin. I'm not the biggest baseball fan but I do appreciate the sport because my nephews play. With humidity in the DMV being out of control I tried a new hairstyle this go around. The Grecian wrap around braid was super easy and conducive to the heat/rain that has been happening. I had so much fun at the game and more importantly ate pretty good. Since I'm still detoxing from alcohol (Day 19 of 21 days...almost done!) I stuck with water for the evening, which kept me hydrated and energized. Check out a few pictures I snapped before the rain started:

My cousin, Wenisha & I

First things first I had to go to the Jerk stand. I got the signature jerk chicken and potato salad which was DELICIOUS! I'm obsessed, definitely going to try the jerk ribs next time.

Can't go to a ball game and not get a classic Nat's dog. We definitely ate good in between girl talk and periodically paying attention to the game lol!

What a great afternoon/evening this was...definitely looking forward to going back this summer. I'm looking forward to celebrating a few birthdays this weekend and Father's day on Sunday. I hope everyone has a great weekend...be safe & keep Charleston, SC in your thoughts and prayers.

HAUTE FRIDAY: Mother's Day Edition!

Mother's Day 2014 with my Fabulous Mother, Pam!

Happy Friday beautiful people! It's been such a great week that I cannot wait to begin my weekend. Between a fashion show tonight, birthday brunches, birthday dinners and Mother's day celebrations I know that this weekend will be so much fun and better yet a time celebrate my fabulous mother! I wanted to do a special post today honoring all the inspiring, motivating and strong mother's that I know personally because we all know how truly incredible mothers are. So I reached out to a few friends and my sisters to share what they thought the best part of being a mom is, check out their responses below:

Simmone & Caleb

Being a mom is the greatest blessing and responsibility I have in my life. There as so many things I enjoy about being a mom. However, there are two aspects of motherhood that resonate with me the most. The first is watching my son grow into an intelligent, handsome and God-fearing young man. It has been an amazing experience to see his confidence grow with each success and challenge he has faced. I have truly enjoyed and feel so proud to share in all of his accomplishments and look forward to seeing him become a productive adult.

Another great aspect of being a mom is the unconditional love my son consistently shows me. Although I can be a bit harsh on my son when I discipline him, he stills understands a mother's love is unbreakable even through punishable and loveable times.

Simmone is my oldest sister and Caleb is my oldest nephew who I love and adore. Their mother and son bond is incredible, I'm blessed to witness this first hand and the best part of watching this relationship grow is that even though she is a career woman with a very demanding schedule she still knows how to balance motherhood so well. Her strength amazes me and I couldn't be happier to call her my sister and the mother that I hope to be one day. Happy Mother's Day Simmone, Caleb is lucky to have you as his mom!

Ashlee & Blake

Being a mother is the greatest joy and the most amazing thing that ever happened to me! My love for Blake endless, indescribable. I honestly could go on and on, but I thank God every day for choosing me to be his mother, He selected a perfect pair! Being a single mother it has its challenges, I like to call them "growth challenges". What you don't realize initially is as they grow you are growing too! With every stage comes something new to experience and fall in love with. Being a mother is a rewarding job and at times it may not always appear that way, but it truly is!

Ashlee has been my bestfriend since we were both in elementary school and to watch her raise my nephew Blake has been such a blessing. The best part of watching Ashlee be a mother is her selflessness with Blake, she's always finding a way to make learning fun and finding fun things to do while still keeping it fabulous! Happy Mother's Day Ashlee, I'm lucky to call you my bestfriend and Blake has a gem on his hands!

Kim & Christian

The best part of being a mom is knowing that your life has extended purpose. I feel so blessed that God chose me to help raise one of His children. It's the highest honor in life. My son makes my heart full. My love for him is infinite and I am enjoying the journey of motherhood!

Kim just recently gave birth to her precious son, Christian just weeks ago! She is a new mother and oh does motherhood look good on her. I'm swooning! I've known Kim since elementary school as well and the best part of hearing her talk about this new role of motherhood is her love for God and how honored she is to raise her son. Happy first Mother's Day Kim, keep loving and growing into the mother you're destined to be, Christian is truly a blessing.

Melissa with Joe-Joe, Maya & Justin

The best part about being a Mom is that God has giving me 3 beautiful children to show everyday how to love. Knowing that I’m present in my children’s lives every day and cherishing and loving them every second. Also, knowing that they love and cherish me every day too. I would also know that the best part in being a mom is that I was taught that by having a great example of a mother in my life for 35 years to show me how to love unconditionally and to show selflessness.

Melissa is my sister who raises my nephews Joe-Joe, Justin and niece Maya. Juggling 3 kids and being a career woman amongst being an amazing wife seems like a lot but she makes it look so easy. Her strength and determination to providing the best life for her family is aspiring. The best part of watching her be a mother is that she is selfless and how her kids cherish her. Happy Mother's day Melissa, you're truly phenomenal and your children are a representation of that!

Kacey & Zoe

The best part about being a mom would be discovering the world and reliving my childhood memories through my daughter. I love seeing her eyes light up when she experiences things for the first time. It also serves as a reminder of what great responsibility her father and I have on exposing her to the world to ensure that she is a well rounded and cultured individual.

Kacey is a dear friend of mine and Zoe is super cool daughter that is truly a star in the making. The best part of watching Kacey be a mother is all the fun and innovating things she does with her daughter. She makes being a Mom a job you can't wait to have, between her work schedule and being a wife it's amazing to see her balance it all so well and effortlessly. Happy Mother's Day Kacey, I can't wait to meet your new bundle of joy on her way, you were made for this!

Brittney & Taylor

Looking into the eyes of your spitting image, the echoes of genuine laugher, hearing the words "I love you mommy"; these are some of the best things about being a mother. It's not always easy but it's always worth it. God created a purpose for each child and it's my responsibly to guide my son accordingly, I find that to be most rewarding about being a mother.

Brittney has been my friend for over 10 years and I remember finding out when she was pregnant with her son Taylor. It's amazing how time flies and how awesome it is to see her as a mother. The best part of watching Brittney be a mother is that she is the "calm after the storm", she makes it looks effortless without a doubt. Her love for her son is written all over his face and her balance of work-motherhood-social life is beautiful to watch. Happy Mother's Day Brittney, you're truly an inspiration and Taylor is blessed to have by his side no matter what!

Ebony &  Madison better known as "Maddy"

Nothing else in the world can create the joy or heart break that motherhood bears. I could not even begin to imagine a life without feeling that wide range of emotions. There are amazing days when I feel my cup just runneth over. Then there are days that I want to cry and just run away. Going through it all...Feeling it all...good or bad, truly gives my life purpose. Motherhood is walking around with all of your nerve endings raw and exposed. And of course let's not forget the smiles, the giggles, and the grins : ) My world could be caving in and I can come home and listen to my Maddy discuss her day and what she's learned, or overhear her giggling playing a game or watching spongebob or just hear her say "Mommy I love you"—and just like that! All is right in my world. To me motherhood is the most extreme measure of being alive. And I must say, I wouldn't trade any of it for the world!

Ebony is my sister-friend that I absolutely adore and her precious daughter Maddy will make the room light up. They are such an amazing duo, I think the best part of watching Ebony be a mother is that she never gets defeated. Her always charismatic personality and hands on relationship with her daughter makes you have instant baby fever. I'm so proud of the mother she is and the woman she is becoming. Happy Mother's Day Ebony, continue to be the mother God has destined you to be I know Maddy thanks you for making her childhood the best!

Candace & Dominiq better known as "Niq"
And what I love most about being a parent is receiving unconditional love everyday. I never have to question if it's real. It makes you feel like you always have a purpose to strive for greatness. Being able to help and watch someone so special grow. It's a blessing just to be apart of that.

Candace has been my friend for years and I've known Niq since he was a little tot, it's so crazy how life moves fast and kids change and grow up. The best part of watching Candace be a mother is her strength for the most part and how passionate she is about Niq. She's always finding a way to make sure he has the best and keeps a smile on his face, their unbreakable bond is priceless. Happy Mother's Day Candace, you're a beautiful person that I cherish and adore and so does Niq!

____________________________________________

Thank you to Simmone, Ashlee, Kim, Melissa, Kacey, Brittney, Ebony and Candace for sharing the best part of being a Mother, I know it was hard because there are so many parts that you find to be the best but as always you ladies delivered because that's what you do! I'm grateful to have each and every one of you ladies be great examples of what a Mother is. Your presence and teaching is admired and appreciated. Continue to grow, flourish and be the awesome women you are!

I hope everyone has a great weekend! Happy Mother's Day to all the Mom's reading this post...Enjoy this song below :)

HAUTE FRIDAY: Feeling Brand New!

NYE 2015: Green jumpsuit from the Kardashian Kollection (old)/ Mirror 'Lance' Jimmy Choo sandals/ Vintage earrings gifted from my Mom/

Well it's finally 2015 and I must say that although it was a rocky start I seem to have a new perspective on how I'm approaching another year....POSITIVE THOUGHTS, POSITIVE ACTIONS, POSITIVE ENERGY! I'm almost done adding 2 pages to my vision book and I've started to make strides to meeting my goals. 2014 was a good year but I intend on making 2015 even better, I've even started writing a 'To do' list of 30 things to accomplish before 30 since I'll be turning 29 next month (Holy cow! Where did my 20s go?). I've been spending so much time just thinking lately that I'm ready to really get the ball moving and walk confidently in the direction of my dreams. My friend and I went out the other night and we discussed our 2015 wishes for each other and she told me that she wished for me to blog more since she enjoyed my blog so much so I'm going to make her wish come true lol! I plan to blog a little more than I have last year because it was so therapeutic for me and it helped me pursue my passion. Amongst those wishes I really thought about what I wished for myself and I hope those wishes come true this year, with all this said "I'm feeling brand new" at the moment. Pardon my overly excited grin if you see me out and about, but I've got a good feeling about 2015 (God is working!). I'm a firm believer in speaking things into existence, because our thoughts are so powerful why not speak them out loud?! Anyway, I'm really looking forward to this weekend! I hope everyone is enjoying the New Year so far, don't forget to smile :)

Haute Friday: Holiday Party Planning!

I know I've been a little MIA lately but, it's for a good reason....my holiday party is tomorrow and I couldn't be more excited! I've been so busy planning with my friends and making sure everything is perfect that I have little time for myself. Tomorrow is the BIG day and I can't wait. A few weeks ago I tried on these beautiful dresses (L:Marchesa, R: Christian Siriano) and was in complete awe of them, although I won't be wearing them for my holiday I couldn't resist a photo op lol! Aren't they beautiful? I was swooning for days! This year I'm bringing out the inner goddess in me and trying a different look for the evening..OMG so excited to show you guys! I hope everyone has a great weekend, talk to you guys next week!! Happy Holidays!! 😊

Haute Friday: Peace x Unity!

WHAT I WORE: Denim shirt (old) by H&M/ Faux fur vest(old) by H&M/ Leather pants by H&M/ Gucci bag/ Christian Louboutin heels/

With all that's going on in the world, I'm hoping for a peaceful weekend. This week has been a ball of emotions and I'm trying to understand it all. I try to keep my blog strictly fashion, beauty and occasionally lifestyle topics so I will keep my opinions to myself about a lot of things happening in the justice system but I am praying and hoping for peace and unity for the USA.

My weekend seems to be pretty low key so far as I prep for my holiday party in the upcoming weeks but I still plan on spending some time with my loved ones. As I've been told several times, love people while they are here because you never know the day God will need them back.

HAUTE FRIDAY: Thanksgiving Bliss!

13th Annual Trot for Hunger Thanksgiving 5K

This thanksgiving was truly memorable, I had the opportunity and great pleasure to start my holiday off running a 5K in support of S.O.M.E.'s Trot for hunger with my family and friends. I was so happy that my nephews got the chance to experience this very special moment and run their first 5K with me. My team raised over $600 in less than a month and I couldn't be more thankful for people's donations, kind words of encouragement and just being selfless.

L to R: Brittany with Brewster in hand lol, Lance. John, Erinn Ebony, Joe-Joe, Justin, Melissa, Derrick and I better known as the SCHMONEY TEAM!

I'm really proud of the SCHMONEY team, we did it (freezing COLD and all)! I can't wait to do this again next year, it truly puts you in the best mood ever! Post 5K I headed over to my sisters house to assist with prepping for dinner with the family. Since I'm trying to perfect my wifey skills (lol), I was in the kitchen whipping up my signature Mac n cheese (which turned out better than I expected....I tried a new recipe) and made candied yams for the first time! I also dabbled in other signature dishes for thanksgiving like turkey basing, prepping the greens, and making sure the appetizers were ready when my family arrived. With lots of laboring in the kitchen the food turned out AMAZING!

I'm getting hungry all over again looking at food pics lol! I devoured 1 1/2 plates and sipped on some tequila cocktails made by my little sister. With so much going on these days I can honestly say I'm thankful for my backbone of a family, incredible friends, selfless love shown to me daily and health and strength. I become speechless when people ask me what I'm thankful for because I have so much that it's hard to just pick one thing. Now that is truly a blessing to have so much to be thankful for!

My super fabulous sister, Simmone. She was the best hostess ever!

After lots of eating, laughing, impromptu dance party and sipping cocktails with the family I can honestly say I'm thankful for everything happening in my life right now, the good and the bad because it has taught me so much about myself. I seem to experience so much in such a quick time that sometimes I have to sit back and truly reflect on my life because that is the only way I know in order to grow. Learning is key and I can say that I'm thankful for all the special people in my life, you've molded me into the woman I aspire to be and for that I couldn't thank you enough.

Chef Swangin' on the low! #IWearWhiteWhenImCookin

I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving and that your weekend is equally as great. I have a bit of running around to do this weekend among celebrating my friend's birthday so it will be a busy one for me. Can you guys believe it's almost December? Where does the time go! Anyway, Happy Friday!

HAUTE FRIDAY: Happy Birthday Mom!

To the most selfless, beautiful woman I know…today is the day I’ve prayed for, the day you’ve prayed for---another fabulous year in the books! You were and still are my 1stbest friend, 1st supporter and 1st role model that has made me see the world so differently. Every day and especially today I thank God for your incredible heart and your presence in my life! You’ve taught me how to be graceful and more importantly how to be a woman, all that I am and aspire to be is because of you. I just hope one day to be the magnificent wife, “go above and beyond” mom and super woman that you are. Your strength amazes me, your positive energy is riveting, and your by far my biggest inspiration to date. I’m forever grateful for your unconditional love. May today and all of your days be as special as you are to me.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!

I hope everyone has an amazing weekend! Peace x Love!

HAUTE FRIDAY!

Happy Hour earlier this week with my girls!

Earlier this week I got the chance to catch up with my girlfriends over cocktails and amazing food, it was just what I needed to get me through this week! With so much on our plate these days and our schedules always conflicting it was really nice to see their faces and reunite for a few hours. What a great week it has been and to top it off Scandal came back #happygirl Did you guys watch? And I also watched How to get away with Murder too, I think that maybe added to my Thursday line up. It's CBC week here in DC, so I plan to partake in some event  this weekend among catching up with some friends before my much anticipated trip! I hope you all have a fabulous weekend, I hear the weather will be nice...Indian Summer? I'll take that.

HAUTE FRIDAY!

Costa Rica beach babe, May 2014

Helllo, I'm back in the USA and I can truly say that I had an amazing vacation. I went to the beautiful Costa Rica for my cousin's wedding and had the time of my life. From sipping cocktails on the beach, to watching the sunset and eating non-stop all while partaking in natures beauty I got to really live in the moment. Although my phone was on half of the time, I still had the opportunity to zone out and really soak up all that a vacation really is. I really enjoy going on trips, I think it's so important to see how other people and cultures live, it's truly the most humbling of experiences. Because my family is foreign, it has given me the perspective that one cannot say that they have lived if they don't travel and see the world, especially when you've had a passport since birth. I plan to do more international trips in the future and I strongly encourage everyone to go out and experience other places. As I'm recovering from minor jet-lag and time zone differences, I'm looking forward to relaxing this weekend. It's back to blogging next week, so much has happened in the world of fashion and beauty can't wait to bring you guys up to speed (if you haven't already). Happy Friday!!

HAUTE FRIDAY!

Last Night @ Jimmy Choo's "Lady Von Scholarship" event with Lola, Jessica & Lacey (L to R)
This week zoomed right on by and although I love the weekends I wish my Monday-Friday would slow down a little. Of course the social calendar was full of events this week but I wasn't able to make everything except the Jimmy Choo "Lady Von Scholarship" shopping event for some much needed champagne and networking with some new/old friends. With Easter Weekend upon us, I'm looking forward to a fun filled weekend with family and friends. I'm volunteering at the White House Easter Egg Roll with my mom on Monday so I'm excited I have an extended weekend of fun on the menu. I hope everyone is enjoying their GOOD FRIDAY & I wish you a very Happy Easter!

HAUTE FRIDAY THE 13TH: Beyonce Drops Visual Album!

Last night well actually SUPER early this morning, Beyoncé gave her fans the biggest surprise of our lives! To think "Scandal" had me all gittery, Beyoncé most certainly through me for a loop. YES, I stan...please deal with it and bow down. She released a visual album complete with 14 new songs, and 17 videos without a promotional stint in place. Hello, who is the BAWSE now? Seriously, I downloaded the album right away and was not disappointed...the music is fresh and the videos are captivating. My favorite songs/videos are "Mine", "Partition", "Yonce", "XO", "Blue", "Drunk in Love" along with the whole DAMN album. Forget the old rules, Beyoncé has new rules for her competition and I'm not mad. Be sure to download her latest album on iTunes ASAP. Check out a few 30 second preview of her videos below:

Happy Beyoncé Day to my Bey Hive!!! Can't wait to see her next week....Heyyy Mrs. Carter. Have a great weekend everyone, I'll be back with super next posts! *back to Beyoncé*
