FASHION...NOT SO FASHION NEWS: "Selfie" Can Be Found In The Dictionary!

...because sometimes the best photographer can be YOU! The "selfie" craze has officially taken over 2012/2013 and dare I say I love it? Lol! I'm totally guilty of taking selfies and posting them on my instgram (follow me: @ms_schuntel ...shameless plug!) because I think that I know my angles alot better than someone else taking it. My first picture on instagram was a selfie, and although I limit my posting of my selfies my friends and I love sending them eachother in our group chats!

So what is a SELFIE? According to the Oxford Dictionary it is “A photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website” and lets note occasional selfies are acceptable, but posting a new picture of yourself every day isn’t necessary. I think we all need to make that mental notes, too many selfies is just a little obsessive..

Hi Beyonce.

How cute!

And then there are the pic-stich selfies....Hi Gabby!

Happy Selfie Picture Taking Guys! xo

The line is designed for girls only, newborn to age 14 is set to hit Gap hit stores and online tomorrow, April 25th. According to DVF herself, the inspiration behind the collection was African-inspired prints and safari themes. How adorable is this blue and white romper (seen above)? I'm smitten kitten! Check out a few images of the collection, courtesy of WWD below:

“My idea was to make the little girls look like explorers,” said von Furstenberg.
Where did her pattens come from? “You had to go down to the roots. One of the patterns from my archives is from a collection called Under the Volcano. I also added a few new prints and adorable printed jeans that I wish I had,” says von Furstenberg.
How long do you have to get this adorable collection? “It’s a limited engagement. People have to rush and go get it,” says von Furstenberg.

Beyoncé as Mrs. Carter in H&M + New Song 'Bow Down'

Congrats to Beyoncé also known as Mrs. Carter for her new partnership with Swedish retailer, H&M. The Brand Representative says, Mrs. Carter also put her "personal input on the pieces seen in the campaign." Kudos to the Singer/Fab-Mommy on her latest venture, she looks absolutely stunning in this beach chair. We hear the campaign was shot in Bahamas while she was celebrating Blue Ivy's birthday. Mrs. Carter further says, "I've always liked H&M's focus on fun affordable fashion. I really loved the concept we collaborated on to explore the different emotions of women represented by the four elements -fire, water, earth and wind. It was a beautiful shoot on a tropical island. It felt more like making a video than a commercial." What can you expect this summer?  The campaign will feature swimwear and beachwear pieces that will raise money for WaterAid. Check out another picture from her January photo-shoot with H&M caught by the Paparazzi below:

In other Mrs. Carter news, it seems like Beyoncé is ready for us to hear what she's been working on! Last week she released her her track "Bow Down" and a picture of a younger @BaddieBey wearing a crown, sash, and gown while being surrounded by trophy's of course (see below).

The song caused a bit of controversy but what else is new? Seems like Mrs. Carter is repping that H-town again and I'm not mad at all! I'm totally stoked to hear more off this album and of course to see her in concert this summer! Take a listen below (I hear a remix is in the works too! Get it Bey!):

MODEL CITIZEN: Chanel Iman Talks Racism to The Sunday Times Style UK

22 year-old International Model, Chanel Iman broke her silence about racism that exists in the fashion industry to The Sunday Times Style UK last month! It's interesting to hear her perspective from the fashion industry and definitely brings more awareness to racism. Hopefully we can someday overcome job opportunities being based on the color of our skin and more based on the content of our character and work performance. I feel that the fashion industry has jumped through many hurdles and broke through tough barriers but, there is still work to do. Kudos to Chanel for speaking on this issue!

FASHION NEWS: Teen Vogue's New Beauty & Health Director, Elaine Welteroth

image via: tumblr
Congrats to Elaine Welteroth as she will officially begin her new position as Teen Vogue’s new Beauty & Health director on October 15th. I'm super excited and proud of the African-American Editor rise happening right now, women of color rock! It was only a few weeks ago when we told you about Keija Minor becoming the first African-American Editor-In-Chief for Conde Nast, Brides Magazine. Elaine is one lucky woman and I must say that although I usually get the "adult" Vogue, I'll be sure to pick a Teen Vogue magazine to support Elaine's new position, this is major.

In a brief interview she did with Fashionista.com made me fall more in love with my passion, check my favorite questions & responses below:

Fashionista.com: You’re about to start a lot of people’s dream jobs. How does one land such an amazing job? Why did you decide to take it?

"It’s all about preparation meeting the opportunity at the right time. I couldn’t step into this role with the confidence I have if I hadn’t been the intern slugging away or the editor who had to pull a ton of late nights. My mentor always said: “work like you’re making millions, even if you’re making pennies.” It’s worth it when you love it. And I had the chance to learn from some really talented people who have taught me a lot. So, this next step is sort of the culmination of a lot of work, great mentorship, and perfect timing. It’s an incredible opportunity, so saying yes was a no-brainer."

Fashionista.com: Your appointment comes at an exciting time as Keija Minor recently became Condé Nast’s first black EIC. She mentioned that she’s noticed more people of color moving up the ranks in publishing. Is that something you’ve noticed? Do you think there needs to be more diversity in the industry?

"The Brides announcement has been really inspiring for a lot of people, including me. I’m so thrilled for Keija! I think the goal should always be to find the right person for the job, and skin color should never be a barrier to that. We live in a multi-cultural world, so embracing diversity is important in every industry. As it related to publishing, I think magazines really benefit from having a staff with a range of different perspectives and cultural references so that any reader can feel like there is someone on the masthead they can relate to, someone they can trust to speak up for them. It’s great to see that idea being embraced more and more."

***

How about that for your morning cup of inspiration?! Loves it. Congrats again to Elaine, I'm eager to see what she's got up her sleeves for Teen Vogue!

FASHION NEWS: Condé Nast has named its First Black Editor-in-Chief, Keija Minor for Brides Magazine

Congrats to Keija Minor for a remarkable and ground breaking achievement! Earlier this week, Huffington Post announced that Kieja would head up Condé Nast Publications (CNP) magazine, Brides. She is the first black Editor-In-Chief in CNP history! This is a MAJOR deal as CNP has owned and produced 18 magazines including Vogue, Glamour, Vanity Fair and GQ, since 1909.You do the math....if you're a little delayed with the subtraction/addition, that's 103 years that no black or woman of color has been editor has ever been named Editor-In-Chief. Congrats to Keija, I'm proud!

FASHION NEWS: Lana Del Rey for H&M

H &M have confirmed that soul songstress Lana Del Rey will be the face of their upcoming autumn campaign, in addition to their holiday ads. Kudos to her, I love everything about Lana (especially her name)! Two sneak peek photos of the campaign were released yesterday, but the entire photo-shoot will make it's debut in September.

Lana is seen wearing a pale pink angora sweater, nude jeans, diamond colored earrings with her Amy Whinehouse bouffant and cat-eyes to match. I'm definitely feeling this ad already, Lana is stunning.

H&M’s PR manager Chloe Bowers released the following statement:

“We were looking for a style icon and singer to model our autumn/winter 2012-13 collection and Lana Del Rey was the perfect choice. We think she shows our fall fashion in a very inspiring way. The theme of the campaign is a modern and feminine woman with a soft attitude. Curves and waist are important in autumn’s silhouette.”

FASHION NEWS: Giuliana Rancic Set To Launch Affordable Clothing Line!

Fashion Police & E! News Correspondent, Giuliana Rancic can add another title to her name. The soon-to-be Fab-Mommy & now Fashion Designer is set to launch an affordable clothing line for HSN entitled, G by Giuliana. We hear the collection will debut later this year. Giuliana says, “It’s super affordable, easy to just wear...I’ll be wearing it on my shows. I think people are really going to like it.” Apparently, Giuliana's father was a master tailor in Naples, Italy, which inspired her designer dreams. That's amazing! I heart Italians hustle! Giulana also says, “He’s always had clothing stores and had men’s and women’s clothing, so I’ve always had fashion running in my veins..But I’m not crazy, not delusional; I didn’t try to do a line and sell it to the top department stores with a crazy price tag. I just wanted something that everyone could get.” Congrats to Giuliana! Hard work pays off and I'm glad to see a Maryland Gal shining. Can't wait to see the collection :)

FASHION NEWS: The Devil Wears Prada, The Sequel!

I'm super excited to announce that there will be a sequel to the The Devil Wears Prada! The author of The Devil Wears Prada, Lauren Weisberger, is writing a sequel! Let the Fashion Gods say "Amen!" Back in 2003, The Devil Wears Prada became a bestselling semi-autobiographical novel about Anna Wintour and the fashion industry. It went on to inspire the hit 2006 film starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway. According to Entertainment Weekly Weisberger is working on Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns, a sequel to her debut novel that became a film classic. Simon & Schuster will be publishing the follow-up in April 2013, just ten years after the original. Isn't this great news?! I've missed Andy and of course Miranda!

The Revenge Wears Prada comes back just eight years after Andy parted ways with Miranda on bad terms in 2006. Andy is now editing The Plunge, a very popular bridal magazine, alongside Emily, her current BFF. While Andy is busy planning her own wedding to her beau, Max, she remains haunted by her former boss, Miranda. Anyone else ready to hear an “Ahn-dre-ah” in the mix?!

FASHION NEWS: Beverly Johnson Gets Reality Show With OWN Network

Oprah has made OWN a worldwide name and has been on the move with plenty of great programming that has been receiving good ratings. My pretend Fairy-God Mother, Oprah is readying herself for another show entitled, Beverly’s Full House. The OWN Network focuses on Supermodel Beverly Johnson as viewers get a glance of the “family-oriented businesswoman” than on “Beverly Johnson the model.” Seems like a great show by the looks of the first five minutes of the first episode, but that's just my opinion. Be sure to watch the sneak peek below and let me know what you think!

Beverly Johnson explained her new series, Beverly’s Full House, to viewers and spoke on how she hopes the show will help heal her relationship with her daughter. The show premieres March 31st at 10/9c on OWN, will you be watching? *raises hand*
