HAIR FILES: Beyonce's Hairstylist, Rita Hazan Speaks on New Pixie Cut

The Beyhive went into a full frenzy last week when Beyonce did the unthinkable by cutting her signature blonde locks and rocking a new pixie hair cut. I was shell shocked and couldn't believe my eyes but either way I adore the QUEEN (you hear me?). Beyonce is as beautiful as they come and with this short hair it truly brings out her features. Fashionista.com sat down with Beyonce's colorist, Rita Hazan to get the scoop on her hair, see a few highlights from the interview below:

Fashionista: What was the process like of creating the color? What did Beyonce request?

Rita Hazan: When I saw her cut, I knew the color had to be soft but powerful. She wanted to keep her natural color as a grown out look with roots to give it an edge. But, she allowed me creative freedom, which is amazing for a colorist to be able to do especially on a superstar like Beyonce. And she lets me get to the end result in my own way, which here was a beautiful champagne blonde.

Fashionista: How is Beyonce to work with? Was she nervous about the change?
Rita Hazan: I think she was ready for a big change. She has conquered the world at 31 with a new baby and a sold-out concert tour. She was relaxed and excited.

Fashionista: What was her reaction like?
Rita Hazan: She loved it and I think she felt really beautiful (’cause she is really beautiful!).

ROCK IT OR KNOCK IT: Beyoncé’s Blonde Braids

GUESS WHO was spotted last night at Nas's Life is Good album release party in NYC rocking some very blonde locks? The one and only King Bey sported a new hair-do while hanging with her Hubby, Jay Z. Looks like Bey is paying homage to her "Destiny’s Child" days, I'm not the biggest lover of these Poetic Justice box braids...but this hairstyle seems manageable for a busy fab-mommy.

The verdict is still out, but would you ROCK IT OR KNOCK IT?

HAIR INSPIRATION: Bun it up!

One thing that all my girlfriends know about me is my obsession with my hair! I like every strand in place and I like to re-invent my look from time to time, so that "time" has come and I'm drawing hair inspiration everywhere. I've always been a lover of the "bun it up" routine, why? because it's sleek, elegant and sometimes all you need to accentuate your outfit! Buns have become the "quick fixes to a mess" hair routine for decades, SO only right that it's a celebrity favorite. It's a very easy hairstyle that requires 5 minutes of your time. Check out my favorite buns that I'll be rocking this Summer <3

Are you bunning it up this Summer?! SPEAK ON IT.

Nicole Richie Talks Hair & Jokes About Rap Career To Glamour Magazine, June 2012

Nicole Richie shared all her fabulous hair secrets and styles that work for her. She told Glamour that “I would be a hairstylist. I actually like to go to the salon and blow out people’s hair...I have naturally curly hair, so ‘natural’ beach waves are not so natural for me. I like to braid my hair at night and then let it out the next day. And I also curl my hair with a flatiron. I actually think I’m the best hairstylist on the planet.” Nicole Richie has some fabulous hair and I love her blonde tresses, really works with her skin complexion.

Nicole also joked with Glamour Magazine about her rap career saying, “Just wait and see. I’m the best!”, after reportedly tweeting "My rap career is on the rise." HA! See more pictures of her rocking different hairstyles and wearing some of her own House of Harlow designs in June, 2012 magazine for Glamour.

BACK-TO-BLACK: Rihanna Shows Off New Hair!

After flirting with flaming red tresses, platinum pixie cuts, and many blonde moments, the Bajan singer Rihanna debuted her new hairstyle via instagram (seen above) and caused quite the frenzy! She is now sporting long black hair with heavy side swept bangs and shaved side. And of course she didn't just tweet her instagram pic to the world without including less than 140 characters of controversy saying, "Cuz I'm black b*tch" to make me people stop and acknowledge her Rolling Stones punk look! Rihanna has her fabulous go-to hairstylist Ursula Stephen to thank for her back-to-black hair moment. Not sure if I'm a big fan of this hairstyle, I feel like Cassie has this on lock but are you loving this look?

HAIR FAB: Tika Sumpter Sleek Black Hair

Long Hair, Don't Care actress and beauty goddess Tika Sumpter has made quite the name for herself lately. Not only does her tresses look amazing but she has successfully made the transition from a Soap Opera actress to a film star. Tika was a actress on my favorite show Gossip Girl last season and I always admired her long tresses...I mean it's PERFECT! I'm thinking of going long and black this summer and take a break from coloring my hair. What do you think?

A little body wave doesn't hurt either....

Are dolls just as in amaze of Tika's beauty and hairstyle?

Hair Inspiration: The Ombre Hair Color

Hair has been on my mind lately, since I'm considering a bit of a switch up (can't reveal, just yet)! I noticed over the summer that more celebrities were leaning towards the infamous "ombre hair color" trend. The name "ombre" is a french term which leaves the darker, more natural hues at the roots of your hair while gradually lightening at the ends. I'm loving this hair trend, simply because you don't have to worry about running back to the beauty salon every 3-4 weeks for a touch-up, which could be a total hassle for a busy bee like myself! As women we pride ourselves on looking and feeling good about our hair, we constantly obsess on making sure every strand of hair is in the right place, it's laying down accordingly, the curls are really curly or whether our hair frizzy and needs taming so hair coloring is also a constant worry of ours but have no fear ombre is here!

This hair trend looks very chic and tends to manageable for anyone that's interested in conserving their coins for more important things. Of course we loveeeeeee the beauty salon gossip, feeling of pampering and the "nobody can wash my hair like my stylist" feeling but going every 2 weeks dropping $100+ on touch-ups on hair color can be pricey! Ombre hair allows you to up to 4-8 weeks without needing a touch-up....who doesn't like to save their coins?! Umm WIN!

Celebrity Hairstylist, R. Obrien Lynch, gives his top 3 things to consider before taking the Ombre plunge yourself on Hello Beautiful (see below):

1. Consider your profession and future aspirations before you go with the bolder shades. The A-listers have started a trend that essentially looks like “grown out” color, which, thankfully, makes it easier on those of us who just don’t have the time to traipse to the salon every few weeks for a retouch. However, remember, the more creative a person chooses to be with their color shading, the more attention they may acquire.

2. Choose shades that will compliment your skin tone as well as wardrobe choices. A person can choose one (1) to three (3) colors to shade for the “Ombre” effect. In the warmer months, shoot for lighter, more vibrant shades and in the winter months, choose cooler, more ash tones.

For a dark chocolate beauty: deep reds, coppers, and cool ash make for beautiful choices.
For the caramel-coated lovely: rich browns, coppers, possibly even violets (depending on career character).
For the fair maiden: ash tones, subdued blondes, golden caramel tones will add warmth to her olive skin.

3. If there has been a previous color, you WILL NOT be able to achieve the “Ombre” effect successfully without some color correction (or maybe even more drastic measures). Though it may look as if this now infamous look can be achieved at home, it is necessary to visit a professional establishment for the best results.

Could you see yourself trying this hair trend?
