SO, my cousin (I miss her!) is probably whining her reggae hips and soaking up the sun while she grooves to the beats of the drums in Trinidad & Tobago's Carnival. I got to thinking about other Carnival's happening all over the world, the first place that came to mind was Brazil! Its no denying that the women of Brazil are beyond BEAUTIFUL and they have one of the best carnival celebrations to date! I discovered the Queen of the Drum Carnival which is happening right now and saw some of the most stunning costumes (I bet they were a fortune)! Learn a little bit about the Brazilian culture below~

Carnival Drum Queens, Queen of the Drums, Queen of the Bateria, Drummers´ Muse, Percussions Muse, Drum Section Queen, or even Percussion Queens, are some names given by translators to the Brazilian Carnaval expression of Rainha de Bateria. Using the term “Carnaval Drum Queen” best represents, the real meaning of the Brazilian term. Carnival Drum Queens are essentially muses that parade in a highlighted fashion, in front of every Drum Section within a samba-school in Brazil´s Carnival.  Historians say the origin of this beauty figure, goes back to the fifties and sixties, but only after the mid-eighties, with Monique Evans at Mocidade Independente de Padre Miguel, the post achieved the status it has today.
